OUR HISTORY

The journey of Elim Pentecostal Church Brockley

Our GOD is One.

Our Church is Unique

Our Journey is One Of A Kind

2001

The Establishment

Elim Brockley is a member of the Elim Pentecostal Churches, headquartered in Worcester, England. Founded in 2001 through the initiative and apostolic oversight of Pastor Sam Larbie, the church has achieved modest growth with a membership close to one hundred. The church was founded under the leadership of Reverend Emmanuel Nelson and his wife Christine with the support of five other leaders who have served and supported the ministry through its 18-year history.

2002

Inaugural Service

Our inaugural service was held in a small upper-room venue on Havelock Lane in Forest Hill. The church grew from a little under 10 members to average about 40 in the first three years of ministry. We outgrew our little venue on Havelock Lane and started looking for our own premises. With the help of our mother church, Camberwell, we managed to purchase our own building on Foxberry Road, Brockley.

2005

Brockley - Our New Home

The journey from Forest Hill to Brockley was not an easy one! It was a challenging and faith-stimulating journey that took us through the Elim Catford, our sister church. It was here that we experienced the pain of waiting for the birthing of our unique ministry vision. After a whole year in our ‘wilderness’ experience, God ushered us into our promised Canaan land – a place of blessing and refreshing.

Foxberry Road was to be the place where the church would experience accelerated growth in various dimensions of ministry. We experienced growth in ministry expression, leadership as well as numerical growth. We continued to enjoy the warmth, love and protection of belonging to a large network of local churches – the Camberwell Group of Churches under the leadership and spiritual oversight of Pastor Samuel Larbie.

2010

Full Autonomy

Developments towards the end of 2009 were set to put the ministry on a completely new path. After extensive consultation with his leadership, the senior pastor decided to give the branches complete autonomy thus allowing them to run their own churches independently of the mother church. This autonomy became effective in December 2010. This has necessitated the ministry to reposition itself in terms of ministry orientation and direction. Pastor Emmanuel continues to lead the church and ministry as the senior pastor, with a leadership team of six. The church now reports directly to Elim Headquarters.

2023

The Present, the Future

We have come this far by faith, we are taking God seriously at His Word and we are confident that God will honor His Word and bring us to the place He has destined us to reach. We believe that our presence in this local community is ordained by God and that we will be instrumental in bringing about community transformation by modeling the life of Jesus Christ every day.

In keeping with the vision of Elim Pentecostal International, our goal is to grow bigger people. This is why we place emphasis on teaching, discipleship and mentoring believers and encouraging them to realize their potential in God.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”

Ecclesiastes 3:11

Never been to Elim Brockley?

Never even been to church?
No Problem.
